The Origin of Orsmab

I’ve been using the handle Orsmab since about the year 2000. People often ask me what it means. When I tell them it means nothing I often get “no really where does it come from?”. So I’ll attempt to explain the less than interesting, completely boring story here on the interwebs so that everyone can be thoroughly underwhelmed.

In the previous century my friends and I used to use the term smabbage in a similar way the smurfs use the word smurf. Smabbage really began as a rhyming word for cabbage (initially spoken by my friend Rick). Eventually we would say things like “what the smabbage?!?!?” and “I want the get me some smabbage!” Also: “Have a smabby day!”, “Smab you!”, etc, etc. Yeah, we were pretty lame. Well eventually I started using DrSmab as a handle for playing games like Quake.

So in 2000 myself and some of my coworkers were at a bar which had the NTN trivia boxes. I was using DRSMAB as my user name. Due to a horrible font and a fuzzy TV someone yelled “Who is ORSMAB?” After that it kinda stuck and just like the Wii I had a weird name that wasn’t used by anyone and didn’t mean anything.

So if you ever need to find me I’m now Orsmab on Twitter and Flickr and my blog is at smabbage.com.

Orsmab out.

First post of my new Tumblr blog

I’m going to try using Tumblr to push out to all of the different social media that I use. It has a lot of great features. I like the way it deals with photo streams and the way things can be shared from one blog to another. Obviously it’s very similar to Facebook, Twitter and Flickr but has some of the best features of all of those. Who knows, I may abandon this right away but for now it seems interesting. Also, I get to use the domain that I haven’t done anything with for a decade or so - Smabbage.com.
